In cooperation with the World Food Programme

ALEXBANK participates in CBE’s “Financial Inclusion Farmers’ Week Celebration” Activities in Upper Egypt as Part of the Financial Inclusion Initiative

As part of its continuous support to financial inclusion, ALEXBANK is participating in the activities of the Central Bank of Egypt’s initiative to participate the “FI Farmers’ Week Celebration” within the financial inclusion initiative, during the period from the 1st to the 15th of September. ALEXBANK holds its “Farmers’ Day” special activities in 5 governorates: Sohag, Assiut, Qena, Luxor and Aswan. The activities aim at support the integration of farmers into the formal economy and provide them with banking services that can help them better conducting their businesses.

ALEXBANK’s participation in these events comes within the bank’s framework and strategy to contribute into achieving sustainable development goals, whereby ALEXBANK supports small farmers in cooperation with the World Food Program, by providing them financial and non-financial services.

Mr. Dante Campioni, ALEXBANK’s CEO and Managing Director stated: “The agricultural sector in Egypt has witnessed remarkable growth even during the ongoing crisis the world is going through, confirming as one of the most resilient and stable sectors of economic activities.”

Campioni added: “ALEXBANK’s participation in the celebrations of the FI Farmers’ Week Celebration comes within the bank's plans to keep supporting small farmers, favoring their inclusion in the formal economy. Our cooperation with the United Nations World Food Program aims to raise the productivity and with this the standard of living of small farmers' communities in Upper Egypt and to facilitate the access of farmers into the official markets, hence, contributing to economic development."

Mr. Praveen Agrawal, Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Egypt stated: “Financial inclusion is a powerful tool to sustainably improve the lives of individuals, families and communities. The World Food Programme is proud to cooperate with financial partners like the Central Bank of Egypt and ALEXBANK to contribute effectively into supporting the Egyptian state’s goals towards achieving comprehensive development in the countryside and agriculture sector. At a time when we celebrate Egyptian farmers, we realize the need of providing economic services and the important role it plays to integrate and empower women and increase productivity in order to achieve Egypt’s 2030 vision and sustainable development goals.”

ALEXBANK provides support to small farmers by opening bank accounts to enable them to benefit from the Bank's various microfinance programs, including micro-loans for livestock projects, targeting groups of potential banks’ customers, including women and youth in the five governorates.

ALEXBANK, while conducting tours in different areas to offer financial services and programs outside the branches, will offer a set of facilitations during the celebrations, including canceling account opening fees and minimum fees on micro, current and savings accounts, special conditions on micro-loans for livestock projects, in addition to holding workshops and sessions to raise financial awareness with a specific focus on women and youth. ALEXBANK will also conduct awareness and education activities in financial literacy and savings awareness, for children from 8 to 12 years old.

It is worth mentioning that ALEXBANK’s financial inclusion strategy aims to develop and provide innovative financial and non-financial solutions capable of supporting integrated economic development, financial inclusion, and environmental sustainability, therefore, contributing to the implementation of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
