ALEXBANK, a bank of Intesa Sanpaolo Group, received Egypt’s Gender Equity Seal (EGES) certification from the National Council for Women (NCW) and the World Bank, as result of its efforts in applying and remaining committed to apply gender equity practices, in accordance with the World Bank gender equity model across the areas of employment, career development, work-life balance, and anti-harassment policies.
ALEXBANK by receiving this certification affirms its commitment in observing the core principles of diversity and inclusion in its work environment, and its keenness on empowering women on economic and social levels, in application of Intesa Sanpaolo’s ESG targets and vision as well as Egypt’s strategic direction towards women’s empowerment, to feed the achievement of its sustainable development goals.
In that context, ALEXBANK recently approved the adoption of a wide set of principles and new policies, adapting the Intesa Sanpaolo Group guidelines to fully align with the local rules and regulations, emphasizing the bank’s commitment towards executing and promoting gender equity and inclusion of all social segments, alongside the ALEXBANK’s core values and principles embedded in its ethics and code of conduct.
Dr. Maya Morsy, President of the National Council for Women, congratulated ALEXBANK for receiving the Egypt’s Gender Equity Seal for its efforts in applying gender equality practices in the private sector, following the World Bank gender equity model across the areas of employment, career development, work-life balance, and anti-harassment policies.
Morsy expressed her happiness with the cooperation between the NCW and ALEXBANK across different developmental projects, especially ‘GHALYA’ initiative for women empowerment, which supports women economically or socially, in addition to supporting relevant foundations supporting women in the Egyptian community.
The NCW president stated that she hopes that banks and private sector companies follow ALEXBANK’s steps in implementing gender equity and women empowerment practices.
“The Gender Seal Certification is a statement which reflects the commitment of ALEXBANK towards fair employment practices, as well as creating and maintaining an inclusive work environment with equal opportunities. This certificate proves the success of our efforts across the past period towards gender equity, with about 30% of our employees being women, and a percentage that we have planned to be able to increase during the upcoming 3 years as average across all positions and departments, based on our long-term gender equity plans”, stated Dante Campioni, Managing Director and CEO of ALEXBANK.
ALEXBANK has made extensive efforts in the past years to favor women’s representation and participation across its structures, which saw a significant increase since 2016, by providing adequate opportunities to women enabled to grow towards leadership positions, supported by training programs and fair policies. These steps fall in line with the vision of the ‘GHALYA’ initiative – ALEXBANK’s external initiative dedicated to women empowerment launched in March 2020 under the auspices of the NCW, which succeeded in positively impacting the personal and professional lives of 3,500 women.
Through its banking activities, ALEXBANK strives to favor the achievement of women empowerment through a five dimensions approach: Financial Inclusion and Sustainable Finance, Economic Development, Social Innovation and Education, Environmental Sustainability and Employee Engagement.
